The Lie of “Having it all figured out”

A client once told me, “I’m waiting to feel 100% ready before I take the leap.”

They were stuck in analysis paralysis—afraid to make the wrong move, overthinking every option, waiting for absolute certainty before they acted.

But what I’ve seen time and time again is that clarity doesn’t come from waiting. It comes from moving.

Alan (his and other names changed for anonymity) spent years second-guessing himself at work, constantly worried about how he’d be judged.

The shift didn’t come from sitting in that doubt—it came when he took action, spoke up, and realised he was already an equal player.

Shaun had been procrastinating over starting his side-hustle for ages, caught between fear and indecision.

The moment he started trusting himself—stopped waiting for the perfect plan and just took the next step—his marriage, his business, and his confidence all transformed.

Jon felt isolated, depressed, unsure of his next move in all areas of his life.

But by taking small, intentional steps—before he had it all “figured out”—he found new energy, created some important new relationships, and a renewed sense of possibility.

No one has it all figured out.

Not at the start.

Not even halfway through.

The people who seem the most certain? They’re the ones who step forward despite the uncertainty.

So if you’re feeling stuck, waiting for the perfect plan—ask yourself: What’s the smallest step I could take today?
